But before OUR story starts, we lived 7000 kilometers apart, not knowing of each other's existence. Katya was the first.
On the cold morning of the 13th of February 1977 she was born in Angarsk (near Irkutsk), Russia. After school, she went
to Irkutsk State University to study Biology. She graduated in 2000. After that, she became 'aspirant' in the Limnological
Institute in Irkutsk, studying genetics and biology of invasive species in Lake Baikal. That's where Marc came into her life.

But way before that moment, on the ice-cold winter day of the 19th of January 1979, Marc was born in Amstelveen
(near Amsterdam), The Netherlands. After school, he went to the University of Amsterdam to study Biology. His final Master's
Project brought him to Irkutsk. And, I bet you guessed, actually it brought him to the Limnological Institute, where Katya
became part of his life...
